Stabilizing an Impaled Object in the Eye
Objective:To demonstrate the proper stabilization of a foreign or impaled object in the eye.

Determines scene is safe  
Introduces self, obtains permission to help/treat.   
Script
"Hi, my name is … and I'm with the ski patrol. Is it alright if I examine you and see what we can do to help you out?"
Initiates Standard Precautions   
Related
Removing Contaminated Gloves
Creates a stabilizing device (use a handmade cravat donut or a paper cup).  
Covers the injured eye with a moist sterile dressing.  
Applies the stabilizing device to stabilize the object from movement.  
Secures the object with the appropriate materials covering both eyes.  
Communicates to the patient the procedure you will perform.
