Blanket Roll Splint for Shoulder
Objective:To demonstrate the appropriate use of a blanket roll for shoulder splinting/stabilization.

Introduces self, obtains permission to help/treat.   
Script
"Hi, my name is … and I'm with the ski patrol. Is it alright if I examine you and see what we can do to help you out?"
Initiates Standard Precautions   
Exposes injury to access and manage the   
Places blanket on flat surface, sizing the roll by folding the blanket to fit the size needed.  
Places four cravats crosswise on one end of folded blanket; rolls blanket firmly, including cravats.  
Assesses .   
Related
While helper holds blanket roll in place, ties one set of cravats over the opposite shoulder around the neck.  
Positions rolled blanket and cravats snugly in the axilla (armpit) of the dislocated shoulder.  
Stabilizes hand and forearm on the blanket with the remaining two cravats.  
Secures second cravat around the patient’s waist.  
Reassesses    
Related
Applies cooling method to help reduce swelling/bruising  
Prepares patient for transport  
Provides oxygen/treat for shock if appropriate
